Development of a shipbuilding kit system for
modular, interchangeable drive systems

The increasing demand for climate-friendly propulsion systems in shipping, as well as the varying technological and economic maturity of the components, represent a new challenge for shipyards. The great diversity in the selection of suitable energy converters and fuels, as well as the high integration effort in linking different systems must be considered.

As part of this feasibility study, individual drive systems are analysed with regard to their use for maritime applications. The evaluation of various configuration and scaling options as well as the development of a concept for the realisation of a demonstrator with a high degree of flexibility and modularity for testing reference scenarios will be investigated.

In this way, engineering and electrotechnical findings on the construction of a modular ship system will be obtained and important parameters regarding the linking of components in terms of energy supply and consumption will be estimated.
